Location History

Freddy L. Fernandez is the current landlord and property owner where Ani’s Day & Night is located and grew up in this distinctive thirties-era Victorian house with his six siblings and beloved parents Hector and Aniceta. During that time the house was surrounded by farmland, and Freddy remembers tying horses to a willow tree located on Riverside as well as helping the original property owner with various farm duties.

Freddy also recalls many beautiful memories of his mother Aniceta “Cheta” Limon, who is the inspiration behind our name. Born in 1930, Aniceta spent her whole life in Austin, and passed away in 2003. She is remembered by her family and friends for her excellent cooking, her love of throwing parties, and her entrepreneurial spirit. She created custom quinceañera and wedding dresses, sold tamales out of her station wagon with kids in tow, and provided card readings. Freddy recalls her great love for dancing every Friday night with her husband Hector, laying out his clothes in preparation for her weekly night out.

In 2000, Freddy was able to purchase the house back and surprise his mom Aniceta with a key to their former home. Aniceta encouraged Freddy to turn their family home into a business, which is how it became Fast Freddy’s Hair Salon. There are a few locations still around town, including one on East Riverside in the event that you’re looking for a nearby haircut.

It is important to us at Ani’s Day & Night to honor the history of the location and the people who came before us. We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the original structure, keeping original fixtures such as the red velvet couch and the chandelier you see in the main hallway. Currently being painted by local artist Sam Sanford, a portrait of Ani now hangs in the entryway.
